Ulrich’s Tavern has the distinction of being Buffalo’s oldest documented continuously operating tavern/restaurant having been established in the fall of 1868 and operating for over 50,000 days. Today it sits in the middle of the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus at its original site and building at 674 Ellicott St., corner of Virginia St. It's the German Restaurant with the Irish Pub. Featuring homemade German-American food and a great draught beer selection anchored by Buffalo's home town brewery, Flying Bison Brewery and the finest beers of Europe. The Daley family has run Ulrich’s for over 50 years and is now second generation owned. Ulrich's purpose for over a 138 years has never changed, to provide a public house where one can enjoy food, drink and camaraderie. Our building was born in the year of Our Lord 1841 in the heart of what the world unaffectionately called "The most evil square mile in America", the Buffalo Erie Canal District. It is no "stretching the blanket" that during its heyday it was estimated that 70 to 80% of the major crimes of the entire nation occurred along the "Canawl".
Out of the maelstrom of teeming masses of Foofoos, Lakers, Canawlers, Blacklegs. Macaronis, Whitelegs, Scalpers, Scoopers, Roughnecks and Runners our nation was reborn. The Babel-like confusion of Canal Street and the Commercial Slip was the Western terminus of the new America on the march, the brave new world, the hope of the unannointed and the downtrodden. The result of this amazing period of Buffalo history was that we were the "Silicon Valley" of America for over 50 years.
We are proud of our History and the hard-edge character of our building; our restoration has tried to maintain the "feeling" that fore bearers would be proud of. Pearl Street Grill & Brewery began it’s tenure in 1997. This historical jewel was polished, renovated and converted into a Brewery, Restaurant and Billiard Hall. Originally Pearl Street was known only as a Pre Sabres game destination catering to large crowds before and after the hockey games. Boy has that changed!
With well over 50,000 square feet and 5 floors of restaurant, banquet, entertainment facility, and multi level patios, we believe our facility is incomparable in the Buffalo Niagara Region.
